Omega 3 Oil Linseed oil high in omega 3
Linseed oil provides a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids and offers the
highest plant sourced ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 oil.
Forage and fresh pasture provide a small level of omega 3 fatty acids in the equine diet. Grains supply high levels of omega 6. If you are looking to increase omega 3 levels, linseed oil is an excellent plant based source providing a high ratio of omega 3 to omega 6. Only fish oil will provide a higher ratio, but many horse owners are not happy to supplement their horse’s diet with an animal based oil product.
Linseed oil contains essential fatty acids. These fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats required for a number of metabolic processes and are not produced by the body, so must be obtained in the diet.
